The basic activity of the Institute covers agricultural research, development, education and production. Due to its location, its main task is to research the problems arising during agricultural activities in the unfavourable ecological conditions of the Middle-Tisza region. It conducts extensive research activities to develop cultivation and nutrient management systems for heavy textured soils with unfavourable physical and chemical properties that also meet the criteria of sustainable agricultural development on the square. In addition, its important task is to breed plant varieties that are most adapted to the ecological conditions of the region, to develop their cultivation technology, to utilize the grassland areas of the Great Hungarian Plain, and to further develop the technology of extensive sheep farming. The Research Institute has a long tradition in the field of chemical and physical improvement of saline soils, as well as the scientific establishment of specific issues of water management.
