The Research Institute of Karcag has served agricultural research since its foundation in 1947. The Institute is primarily connected to the scientific establishment of sustainable agricultural development with its research on plant breeding and variety maintenance, land utilization, soil cultivation and soil protection, sheep breeding and grassland management. Due to its geographical location, the Institute's activities are focused on the Trans-Tisza Region. In addition to its regional tasks, it is also involved in the national and international division of research of the above disciplines through the generalizable content of the disciplines it cultivates and, in some cases, its direct experimental activities. Following its progressive traditions, the main tasks of the Institute are to examine the agroecological conditions of Great Cumania, to develop agriculture adapted to the local conditions, to develop agrotechnological solutions that protect the soil, to preserve and develop the biological bases with traditional breeding methods - with particular regard to the breeding of region-specific varieties adapted to the agroecological conditions of Great Cumania – and to increase the competitiveness of the sheep sector and developing extensive grassland management technologies. Our aim is to create an intellectual knowledge centre that can provide answers to regional questions related to agricultural production and rural development. We carry out complex interdisciplinary activities that play an important and indispensable role give basic priorities to the establishment and complement of sustainable agricultural production. Therefore, we carry out researches to elaborate both agronomically and economically efficient technologies. which are less burdensome to the environment and serve to protect it, and ensure high quality and safe products.
